Many of us have been forced to leave campus and move back home, or attend virtual high school classes in the midst of a chaotic pandemic. Our daily routines have been turned to dust, and we miss seeing our friends more than anything! Although we may not be able to physically hang out with our friends and family right now, I came up with a few fun ways to stay in touch while enjoying some fun activities!
Outdoor Activities
1. Gather ‘round a bonfire
This is the ultimate activity for those upcoming, warm summer nights. You and your friends can set up lawn chairs, bring your own snacks and drinks, and just catch up on what you’ve been up to lately. You can even enjoy a movie under the stars if someone has an outdoor projector!
2. Plan a picnic
All you need is a picnic blanket, some snacks, sandwiches, and refreshing, cold drinks, and you have yourself a picnic! You can also download a show to watch on someone’s laptop or outdoor projector, and play simple games like Heads Up or charades.
3. Chalk art & games
Throw it back to your childhood and have some fun on your driveway! Set up your lawn chairs or blankets six feet apart from each other, and play Hangman or Pictionary! You can also leave a positive note or drawing for people who pass by on their daily quarantine walks (as seen on TikTok lately).
4. Socially distanced (or virtual) workout
Along with getting some fresh air and Vitamin D, the outdoors are the perfect place to try out a new workout video or routine with your friends while keeping your distance! You can also do this over a video call if you’re unable to meet in person.
Virtual Activities
1. Netflix Party
This Chrome Extension lets you watch a movie or show on Netflix in sync, and chat on the side! You can also FaceTime on another device if you want to see each other’s live reactions and talk about the movie in person.
2. Virtual happy hour
Make your favorite drink: coffee, tea, lemonade, a smoothie, cocktail, mocktail, milkshake, or plain old H2O. Catch up with your friends on group FaceTime or Zoom, play a game, or talk about what you’re looking forward to in the future!
3. Multiplayer online games
Here are some games you can play against your friends on your phone or laptop, with or without video chatting with them on the side:
Crazy Eights, Joking Hazard (like Cards Against Humanity)
Crazy 8’s, 8-Ball, Mini Golf, etc. on GamePigeon on iMessage
4. Virtual baking or cooking session
You and your friends can try out the same recipe, or hold a competition like Chopped to see who comes up with a better dish from a random list of ingredients. Feel free to share your food pics on Instagram @life.with.ankita if you want a shoutout!
Hopefully, this list gave you some fun new ideas to try out with your friends when you run out of things to talk about on those daily FaceTime calls. I’d love to see your creative ways of staying in touch with each other, so comment down below or reach me on Instagram @life.with.ankita!
