Happy Winter Break everyone! Now that many of us are stuck inside because of the snow AND the pandemic, we’re all looking for fun activities to keep us from extreme boredom or going insane. I, too, am guilty of spending most of my time indoors rotating between different screens, so I decided to make an updated list of safe, indoor activities for the winter! Check out my suggestions below and let me know if you try them out!
1. Make homemade greeting cards
This year has been tough on all of us, so spreading love and joy this season is more important than ever. Get creative while making cards for family and friends, essential workers, or residents of local nursing homes, and you will surely lift someone’s spirits!
2. Decorate for the holidays
Spruce up your room, house, or front yard with decorations and lights! There are so many Dollar Tree DIY’s on TikTok and Reels these days. I also always turn to Pinterest to find a theme, see tutorials, and get inspiration for decor.
3. Donate clothes
To make room in your closet for those Black Friday hauls, donate some older clothes to places like Goodwill or local shelters. Check online to see which places are accepting what kind of donations before you go.
4. Try a new hobby
Some cozy hobbies for the winter include knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. You can also buy super thick yarn and make a fluffy hand-knitted blanket from YouTube tutorials. Another great activity is practicing hand lettering, which can come in handy for all those holiday cards and presents!
5. Old video games
Break out those games you haven’t touched in years like Just Dance, MarioKart, or Wii Sports and live out some of your childhood once again! It’s always fun getting competitive with family members and feeling the satisfaction of winning. :P
6. Break out the board games
Some of my family’s favorites are Monopoly, card games, and Clue, but I’m sure your family has its own traditions or favorites! Or you can explore new games from Kohl’s, Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
7. DIY Chopped
Gather some seasonal winter ingredients, and see who comes up with the most creative dish or drink! Loser has to do the dishes :( (just kidding)!
8. Virtual travel
My new favorite thing to do is watch YouTube live streams of people walking around NYC. Even though it’s so close to me, it feels so far away because I can’t visit this year. These videos give you a nice tour and let you enjoy the holiday season in New York comfortably from home! There are also lots of travel videos available on YouTube if you want to explore different cities, or plan a trip for the future!
